Due to circumstances I will not be seeing Alex very often any more. I miss him very much.
However, I had an amazing offer to do Parelli with my riding instructor's 32 year old mare called Brandy. I was also given my very own 12 and 22 foot lines. They look very cute with Brandy's green halter.
Brandy used to be a reining horse but now enjoys being in her paddock with her buddy Doll. She is sometimes sore and I will not be asking her to move very fast at times. She is very sweet and tries her best to please me.
I had a lovely first session with Brandy. I groomed her and braided her mane (just for the fun of it). When I led her into the arena she was nervous and wanted to move her feet so I let her. She chose the speed she was comfortable with and I chose the direction. When she calmed down we started to work on friendly game and stick to me. Mostly we were getting used to each other.
Brandy was not feeling well for a few days and managed to scratch her face pretty badly. During my next session I did not want to put on her halter and just put the 12 foot line around her neck to play with her. We worked on stick to me from the right side, lots of friendly game, HQ disengage while moving her feet, porcupine game, driving game and a tiny bit of yo-yo and driving game combined backwards and draw back to me. At the very end of the session we did a teeny tiny bit of circling game, one circle each way to be exact. I also found out that Brandy loves very very small pieces of apple.
Games progress:
Friendly game : still difficult especially at
zone 4 and 5
Porcupine: very easy
Driving: still needs a little bit of work on forequarters
Yo-yo: Brandy needs lots of time to think in the beginning
Circling: still getting used to the idea that I am not micromanaging her
Sideways: haven't tried yet
Squeeze: haven't tried yet
Stick to me: very good in zone one on her left, everywhere else needs some work
